Being a resident of Brownsburg, Indiana, you may have heard that starting 10/01, residents of the burg will begin to pay a (get this) "rain tax". They have figured out that since driveways won't absorb rain, it runs off into the sewer and the town must deal with it, sooooo........ tax the rain water. I am thinking it may be time for another Boston Tea Party in America!
While I never before would have entertained the notion of running for office, I am so fed up with big government and bigger taxes, that I am seriously entertaining how I could go about running for office, even though the professional politicians have priced campaigning for nearly every elected office in this nation out of the reach of the average American. The only apparent solution is for concerned Americans to financially back 'dark horse' average-Joe Americans by way of a third Party (like Libertarians or the Constitution Party). I'm convinced that much of what is wrong in America is the result of the Republicrat/Demopublican party establishment.
Of course the problem has been in front of us the whole time. We have forgotten the only legitimate purpose for government, which is to insure the Natural Rights of 'We the People'. Instead, we have allowed ourselves to be brainwashed into thinking that laws must be passed or else the government will shut down; and that government shutting down is a bad thing.
The problem of big government is a direct consequence of expecting government to do anything and everything for us. We shouldn't be surprised, therefore, when our taxes go up. However, keeping Jefferson's dictum in mind, we can only be taxed so far before we become slaves to the process of feeding the government revenue machine. It's not possible to be taxed more than 100% (that's total slavery, of course), but at the rate that politicians are spending money to satisfy the statist desires of the sycophants of big government, Americans from coast to coast are quickly finding out that all levels of government are running out of money just for paying the interest on all the loans and bonds floated to fund this ridiculous expansion of government.
Look at how the state and federal governments are privatizing public assets like our ports, leasing our toll roads, and much more. This should be an alarm klaxon to an unwary public. We're being enslaved on our own land and instead of a call to arms, we're bleating like sheep for the government to do yet more for us, further accelerating the costs of a leviathan that long ago we could no longer afford.
The whole process is reminiscent of a failing sun/star that, rather than turning into a stable white dwarf, collapses into itself and becomes a BLACK HOLE from which nothing escapes.
This is the America we are creating for ourselves, and although taking responsible countermeasures now would be painful in the extreme, it is far better than the alternative.
